What is the Minimum Wage in Australia?

The national minimum wage is the lowest hourly rate an employer can legally pay an adult employee who is not covered by a Modern Award or enterprise agreement. Most employees in Australia are covered by an award, which sets higher minimum rates based on industry and classification level.

  • Adult (21+): $24.10 per hour / $915.90 per week
  • Casual adult: $30.13 per hour (includes 25% casual loading)
  • 20 years old: $22.91 per hour (95%)
  • 19 years old: $19.61 per hour (81.5%)
  • 18 years old: $16.32 per hour (67.75%)
  • 17 years old: $13.27 per hour (55.1%)
  • 16 years old: $10.94 per hour (45.4%)
  • Under 16: $8.66 per hour (35.95%)
